NSW Club Run - Bathurst

Sunday 23rd June

Eight NSW ERCA Club Members plus a few friends took part in a great Club Run organised by Greg Newton on Sunday the 23rd of June 2019. Here's Greg's report and the photos from the run.

Hi all

What a fabulous weekend was enjoyed on our Club run to Bathurst over the past two days with 10 in tow including 8 club members - Margueritte and Martin Kass, Liz and me, new Associate Members Marijke and Jim Limberiou (Audi 4T), and Beatta and Ron Kaplan (F Type Jaguar) plus 2 other keen beans Kay and Colin Chidgey in their Porsche.

After a lovely drive across the mountains lunch was enjoyed at the famous Tin Shed at Lithgow and I must say that everyone gave it a 10/10 whether it be the burger, mushroom salad, linguine or plowman’s lunch with a few being washed down with a 150 Lashes or two.

After lunch the convoy took the road to Bathurst via Tarana and enjoyed the narrow twisty country backroads through some beautiful countryside.  Our accommodation for the night was at Rydges Mt Panorama with 5 fabulous King Suites overlooking the track.  Oh yes, in true rally form each team was given 25 pretty tough questions to answer on their journey and while all did a gallant effort the winners on the day was Margueritte and Martin Kass who received an amazing set of indigenous themed coasters for their efforts.  A lovely dinner accompanied by copious glasses of red ensured that we all retired well fed dreaming of our fabulous day.

Sunday dawned fresh with ice on the ground and wallabies bounding across Conrad St right in front of our balconies.  It wasn’t long before we headed off to do a flying lap of the famous circuit, albeit at the designated 60kph speed limit.  Nevertheless you certainly gain an understanding of the challenges facing competitors in driving quickly on this famous circuit.  A visit to the National Motor Racing Museum followed with its incredible collection of Bathurst Winners including cars and bikes from the 1960’s forward.

We drove back to Sydney via the twisty Bell’s Line of Road stopping at Pie in the Sky for the most amazing pie lunch and the best milkshake that I’ve ever drunk. Thanks to everyone for making it along and I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events in 2019.
